For the second time under Bush, Vice President Dick Cheney will be the acting president while the president will undergo general anesthesia for a routine colon examination. The powers will be transferred to the Vice President under the 25th amendment, which permits the president to voluntarily hand over authority when he is unable to perform his duties.

Dick Cheney will be in charge for about two and a half hours during which time Bush will be at Camp David undergoing the procedure.

The last time Cheney was transferred the powers, he was in-charge for two hours and 15 minutes. This time around, he plans to spend the entire duration of his time in power at home with his wife.

The only other president to have done this other than Bush is Ronald Reagan back in 1985.
